The Master of Urban Design program at The Design School is an interdisciplinary graduate degree for professionals, equipping learners with practical urban design expertise to drive meaningful city changes that enhance community and urban resilience. This program integrates cutting-edge design principles from fields like architecture, landscape architecture, placemaking, urban planning, community development, civil engineering, and real estate development. Participants also explore crucial insights from non-design areas such as climate science, social equity, sustainability, urban ecosystems, environmental psychology, anthropology, arts, history, smart city technologies, legal frameworks, and systems theory. The 12-month MUD curriculum focuses on examining and interpreting complex urban systems, particularly in fast-growing global regions. Using the Phoenix metropolitan area as a living classroom, students tackle real-world issues including rapid urban expansion, water scarcity, extreme heat, and the region's distinctive ecological and cultural mix to develop sustainable global solutions and creative urban design approaches.
