The arts, media, and engineering specialization within the MS in electrical engineering program represents a partnership between ASU's electrical engineering department and the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts. This option is open to enrolled MS and PhD candidates who complete two-thirds of their coursework, research, and thesis requirements in electrical engineering, with the remaining third drawn from arts, media, and engineering studies.
Students pursuing this interdisciplinary focus receive instruction in combining digital signal processing, pattern recognition, computer vision, and multimedia computing techniques with cross-disciplinary goals. This approach aims to develop innovative human-machine interaction models that tackle real-world challenges and enhance understanding. Potential applications range from smart healthcare technologies using media systems to tools supporting ecological sustainability initiatives.
