Master of Science candidates are accepted into specific focus areas and must meet all associated requirements. The department's M.S. program offers both coursework-only and thesis pathways. The coursework option requires completing at least 30 credit hours, with a minimum of 18 at the 8000 level. The thesis alternative also mandates 30 credit hours, comprising 12 at the 8000 level plus 6 hours of ECE 8910 (thesis research). Research assistants typically must select the thesis route, and those considering doctoral studies are strongly advised to pursue this option. The Master of Engineering in electrical engineering caters to full-time engineering professionals. Both on-campus and distance-learning courses (including online offerings) count toward degree completion. Instead of a traditional thesis, M.Eng. students complete an engineering report.
