Transform lives by helping individuals with developmental disabilities, neurogenic disorders, hearing impairments, and swallowing challenges. The Communication Disorders MS program trains students to become licensed speech-language pathologists through an intensive 20-month, on-campus curriculum.
During the initial year, students complete coursework covering diagnostic and therapeutic techniques for communication disorders at all life stages. They also obtain practical experience by treating clients at university clinics under faculty supervision.
The second year focuses on advanced coursework and specialized clinical training through off-site placements, allowing students to deepen their expertise in chosen areas.
The program provides clinical and research experiences across various environments such as:
early childhood programs and private clinics
hospital and rehabilitation facilities
educational institutions
Public school speech pathology assistants can participate in a part-time work option. For those pursuing specialized training, a multilingual services certificate is available. Research-oriented students may engage in laboratory work and thesis projects.
With program approval, select second-year courses may be taken through ASU Sync, which delivers live virtual instruction via Zoom while maintaining interactive learning. Note that international students on I-20 visas must attend all classes in person.
Veterans using GI Bill benefits for ASU Sync should consult the Pat Tillman Veterans Center about potential restrictions.
