The Master of Science in American Indian Studies is an interdisciplinary program designed to equip students with both theoretical knowledge and practical insights into the challenges confronting Native American communities, while enhancing their capacity to implement this understanding. Participants develop analytical abilities applicable across various professional sectors, including government, private organizations, and nonprofit institutions.
This curriculum emphasizes linguistic studies, cultural traditions, artistic expressions, social movements, historical contexts, legal frameworks, and educational approaches through an Indigenous studies lens. Instruction occurs via on-campus classes.
The tribal leadership and governance specialization examines both ancestral and contemporary principles of Native education administration, sovereign governance structures, policy formation, constitutional amendments, strategic development, economic initiatives, community empowerment, nation restoration, judicial systems, and organizational management.
