Theatre doctoral students specializing in theatre and performance of the Americas analyze theatrical works from multiple critical viewpoints via coursework, seminars, and research opportunities. The program fosters cross-border and interdisciplinary thinking, equipping students to question conventional narratives and push theatre studies into new territories.
Students employ approaches that disrupt standard historical and theoretical accounts of theatre. They also utilize cultural and performance studies frameworks to investigate alternative embodied practices connected to, yet separate from, conventional theatrical forms.
First-year studies concentrate on performance research fundamentals, particularly American performance traditions. Second-year students deepen their first-year investigations through focused coursework and hands-on applications.
