This educational program combines theoretical knowledge with practical learning, rooted in public health applications. It empowers registered nurses and midwives to advance their expertise to a specialized level through one of two available pathways.
Upon completing the course successfully, graduates can register on Part III of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register and work as specialist community public health nurses. The curriculum incorporates the Community Nurse Prescribing (V100) program (embedded within the Specialist Practice modules), which can be officially recorded with the NMC.
This full-time 52-week course includes 22.5 weeks of classroom instruction and 22.5 weeks of supervised practical training with a practice teacher and specialist mentor. The full-time schedule requires two days at Wrexham University, two days in clinical practice, and one independent study day per week during academic terms.
