Our research focuses on literature from 1830 to today. We investigate a remarkably wide array of subjects: spanning Victorian novels to postcolonial studies, and contemporary poetry to modern fiction. Beyond English literature, our department specializes in South African, Asian, American, Irish, and European works. We also examine connections between literature and film. Our faculty and graduate researchers represent diverse global backgrounds.

For doctoral research, we would generally expect you to have completed an MA in a relevant subject. To apply, please submit the following documents:
