For those with extensive knowledge in sociology, related fields, or interdisciplinary studies, along with a clearly defined research plan, our PhD program may be an excellent fit. Our supervisory expertise spans research topics across Europe, the Americas, Africa, and South Asia, with particular strengths in: crime studies and social equity, cultural and media studies, economic sociology, migration and human rights issues, gender and relationships, sociological theory and methods, and survey research. This focus is supported by our four key research hubs: the Migration Studies Centre, the Centre for Research in Economic Sociology and Innovation (CRESI), the Centre for Intimate and Sexual Citizenship (CISC), and the Centre for Criminology.
Our graduates frequently pursue rewarding academic careers both within the UK and internationally. Many also build successful careers in NGOs, local government, policy research organizations, public sector departments, charitable institutions, media production, and consumer research.
