Our Master of Arts in Music Performance: Piano Studies program is designed to enhance your practical skills and theoretical understanding through focused piano-centered education.
The curriculum explores diverse keyboard compositions spanning from early Baroque to contemporary works, refining your interpretive abilities via workshops and masterclasses while cultivating historical awareness across various musical styles. This includes hands-on experience with period instruments like harpsichords, clavichords, and fortepianos.
You'll expand your musical capabilities through ensemble playing and accompaniment training, both within the program and beyond. The University of York Piano Ensemble brings together multiple pianists specializing in works for several keyboards, with particular emphasis on modern, experimental pieces and classical adaptations. Performance opportunities include accompanying fellow students, attending regular masterclasses with guest artists, and presenting in various venues. Upon completion, you'll emerge as a self-sufficient, critically thoughtful, and technically accomplished pianist.
