The School of Humanities provides a dynamic setting for MPhil and PhD candidates, where they can collaborate with passionate, skilled, and globally recognized faculty members. The English department boasts a strong history of academic research and supervision across literature, linguistics, and creative writing, spanning topics from medieval theater to contemporary 21st-century novels. Current and recent doctoral studies examine subjects like cognitive theory in the nouveau roman, evolving narrative forms in fiction and video games through augmented reality, Shakespearean film adaptations, Helen Maria Williams' translations (1789-1827), Zelda Fitzgerald's role in modernist women's literature, and representations of youth and femininity in paranormal romance. Additionally, we provide a specialized focus on literary connections to the Black Country region.
