The School of Life Sciences is housed in state-of-the-art laboratories located in central London, featuring top-tier facilities that enable pioneering research across various fields such as molecular and cellular biology, fermentation and biotech, as well as human health and performance studies.

Among its globally acclaimed research initiatives are projects focusing on biopolymers and nanotechnology, obesity studies, cancer research, inflammation, human physical performance and aging, nutritional science and worldwide public health, along with social prescribing and resilience programs.

The School's research activities are supported by postgraduate students pursuing MSc and PhD degrees, post-doctoral researchers, technical support personnel, and faculty members. Funding comes from both national and international grants, as well as collaborations with industry partners.

Available research degree options include full-time and part-time PhD programs, distance learning PhDs, and PhDs through published work.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants should normally have a minimum classification of an upper second class honours degree (2:1) or equivalent and preferably a Masters degree (or Masters degree pending). All applicants must meet the university's English Language requirements. IELTS - 6.5 with a minimum 6.0 in each component. TOEFL - 92 overall with a minimum of 20 in Listening, 24 in Writing, 19 in Reading and 20 in Speaking.
