In the 2014 Research Exercise Framework, CREAM received top marks among all institutions for diverse art and design research, with 45% of its work classified as world-class and 63% rated as having world-leading impact.
CREAM conducts extensive research spanning ceramics, visual arts, photography, film, experimental media, music, and fashion. With 30 researchers and more than 50 PhD candidates, it stands as London's premier research hub for visual/media arts, design, and music, ranking among the UK's top six centers. Nearly 50% of CREAM's doctoral students pursue practice-based programs.
Doctoral researchers at CREAM engage in a vibrant schedule of seminars, guest lectures, innovative conferences, and collaborative symposia with partner institutions. CREAM has played a pivotal role in shaping discussions around practice-based research in audiovisual media and was a co-founder of the AHRC-supported AVPhD initiative.
