The MA in Translation and Interpreting with Professional Experience is a distinctive two-year program that includes an extended work placement to build practical skills. Alongside the standard Translation and Interpreting MA curriculum, you'll undertake identical coursework while also fulfilling a 550-hour minimum professional placement or internship. This program develops bilingual expertise between English and your primary language, teaching specialized research methods for professional translation and interpreting. You'll refine your abilities through intensive practice sessions in dedicated classes and Skills Lab modules. Core coursework is enhanced by elective options, culminating in either a Translation/Interpreting Project or a written dissertation.
A minimum of a lower second class honours degree (2:2). Linguists without a degree but with sufficient experience in translation and/or interpreting will also be considered. All applicants take an entry test consisting of written and oral components. If you are successful in the entry tests, we will interview you in person or on the telephone to determine if the Translation and Interpreting MA is right for you. The course is open to native speakers of Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish.  If your first language is not English, you should have an IELTS 6.5 with 7.0 in speaking and a minimum of 6.0 in all other components.  TOEFL 88 overall with a minimum of 17 in Listening, 21 in Writing, 18 in Reading and 20 in Speaking.
