Our Master's in Specialised Translation provides expert-level training for aspiring translators. This program welcomes both English natives and non-natives who are proficient in Chinese, French, German, Italian, or Spanish. Native English speakers can pair English with two additional languages, while non-natives combine it with one.Core to this MA are hands-on translation workshops between English and your chosen language(s), supported by our Translation Skills Lab. You'll master researching specialized topics to create market-ready translations across various fields, blending theoretical knowledge with professional techniques. The Translation Skills Lab offers practical experience in Project Management and Quality Assurance within a simulated agency environment.Additional modules focus on industry preparation and technical proficiency. The Audiovisual Translation and Localization component introduces principles of media translation and game localization, with training in professional software.Our Computer-Assisted Translation module covers CAT tools and machine translation post-editing. Dual-language students select either this or the Audiovisual module, while single-language students complete both.The Professional Development core includes career-building workshops, CV preparation, and industry guest lectures. Optional modules let you tailor your studies. A minimum of a lower second class honours degree (2:2). Linguists without a degree, but with sufficient experience in a relevant area, will also be considered. Applicants will be interviewed in person or on the telephone and set a translation test to check your suitability for the course. The course is open to native speakers of Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. Applicants will need fluent written and spoken English. If your first language is not English, you should have an IELTS 6.5 with 7.0 in writing and a minimum of 6.0 in all other components. TOEFL (IBT) 88 overall with a minimum of 17 in Listening, 21 in Writing, 18 in Reading and 20 in Speaking.
