History continues to be one of the most captivating and popular fields within the arts and social sciences. At Westminster, we approach History as a universally relevant subject. Our teaching adopts a truly global perspective, amplifying underrepresented narratives and challenging traditional assumptions about power and identity, positioning our program at the forefront of the discipline.

Our curriculum focuses on modern history, covering the period from the mid-18th century during the American and French Revolutions through to contemporary times in the 21st century. Core modules provide a worldwide viewpoint across the academic year, while specialized units delve deeper into British, European, American, imperial, and global historical studies.

You'll learn from dedicated scholars frequently acknowledged for their teaching prowess and student support. Our faculty members are actively engaged in research, bringing cutting-edge scholarship into the classroom. During your final year, you'll work closely with an expert supervisor on your dissertation. Recent compelling research topics have included 1960s fashion trends, India's independence movement, colonial politics in Trinidad and Tobago, British female espionage during WWII, and Palestine's transitional periods.
