Working alongside the Mathematics Institute, the Statistics Department has established the Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Mathematics and Statistics. Differing from most CDTs, this program isn't focused on one specific subject but encompasses the diverse research fields of both departments. We aim to develop a comprehensive educational framework in mathematical sciences, incorporating theoretical, methodological, and practical applications. The CDT offers shared foundational training for PhD candidates across mathematical disciplines, complementing their specialized research conducted under faculty supervision. Students in the CDT select their advisor and research focus during the initial program year. Each Department provides distinct first-year training curricula to best equip students for their doctoral research. Non-CDT PhD opportunities, where students begin working with an assigned supervisor immediately, are offered only when mandated by the student's funding requirements.
