This Master's program provides comprehensive insights into how our contemporary world has evolved throughout the modern era. You'll examine economic, cultural, social, and religious transformations from 1800 to the present, while engaging with pivotal theorists and conceptual frameworks that help interpret modern societies. Our expert faculty deliver diverse perspectives through specialized modules.
During the initial term, you'll complete two foundational courses. Theory, Skills and Methods establishes core competencies in historical methodologies and analytical frameworks for examining societal and cultural developments from early modernity to today. Themes in Modern History critically examines global modernity, featuring works by seminal thinkers, historians, and political leaders of the modern period.
The second term offers elective modules where you can investigate specialized topics including religious traditions, gender studies, scientific advancements, colonial histories, consumer culture, and medical humanities.
A highlight of the program is the dissertation component, granting significant autonomy to pursue original research with dedicated supervisory support during the final term. Throughout the academic year, you'll have access to the Department's six research centers, including opportunities to participate in dynamic scholarly events such as seminars, lectures, and conferences.
