This program merges academic training in global politics with specialized focus on East Asian contexts. It applies diverse theoretical frameworks to examine East Asian scenarios frequently neglected in conventional International Relations (IR), International Political Economy (IPE), and Policy Studies curricula. Students gain robust disciplinary knowledge alongside authentic regional understanding.
The East Asian region encompasses numerous security tensions that could escalate into conflicts, particularly between the US and China. As one of the most vibrant areas in world political economics, it's marked by historical, ethnic, religious, and ideological divisions. The region also presents unique models of security, economic growth, and regional cooperation that question Eurocentric assumptions prevalent in mainstream theories.
Continuing to hold significance across various academic fields, East Asia provides fresh viewpoints on established methodologies, enabling us to reconsider our fundamental approaches to Political and International Studies research.
