This degree program enables students to examine three interconnected disciplines through historical, literary, and philosophical lenses. You'll engage with modules in Classics, Philosophy, and English Literature, investigating how ancient Greek and Roman civilizations influenced subsequent philosophical thought and literary traditions. The curriculum provides access to diverse modules that bridge historical and modern scholarship, fostering an understanding of the profound connections between these fields.
The first year establishes fundamental knowledge, with opportunities to learn Latin or Ancient Greek, while subsequent years offer extensive module selections across all three departments.
A cross-departmental core module, "Problems in Philosophy and Literature," anchors the first year. Philosophy includes one mandatory second-year module, with complete flexibility to choose Honors-level options in years two and three. The final year presents the option to undertake a supervised dissertation or independent project, allowing for focused research that integrates these disciplines.
For those seeking broader experience, we facilitate applications for an intercalated year abroad or work placement. This extends the program to four years, with the third year spent internationally or in professional settings, reflected in your final degree title (e.g., BA Philosophy, Literature and Classics with Intercalated Year).
