You'll collaborate with distinguished faculty members who play key roles in shaping policy discussions within the UK Government, EU, and various global institutions. Our program offers both PhD and MPhil study options. These degrees vary in length and research scope. A PhD requires you to produce significant, original contributions to your field of study, while an MPhil involves independent research with a narrower focus than a PhD, culminating in a Master of Philosophy qualification. There may be opportunities to transition from an MPhil to a PhD during your studies.

Qualification Requirements
You’re normally expected to have a Merit (an average of 60% of overall) in a Masters degree and an upper second-class (2.1) undergraduate honours degree.
Subject-specific requirements
Your qualification should be in geography or a closely-related subject area.
In exceptional circumstances, you may be considered for the degree if you have a qualification in a different subject area. You may also be considered for the degree if you have other professional qualifications or experience of equivalent standing.
We also offer a Doctoral pathway which incorporates the MSc in Social Research Methods or further specialist research training modules within Year 1 for those without the required research training
