Our BSc and MPhys Physics with Quantum Technologies programs introduce you to the quantum realm, creating pathways to diverse career prospects in both commercial and academic sectors. Quantum technologies leverage the unique properties of quantum mechanics to accomplish tasks beyond conventional technological capabilities. These programs explore the entire scope of this dynamic and fast-evolving discipline - ranging from laser systems and photonics to quantum information science and computational quantum systems. Two distinctive features of these programs include: Our recognized Professional Training opportunities: The BSc program offers optional paid industry placements, providing practical experience to boost career readiness. The MPhys includes an extended, graduate-level research placement, either within our renowned research teams or at collaborating global institutions. Our emphasis on undergraduate research initiatives: All students can pursue paid 8-10 week summer research positions within our departments or through the South East Physics Network. Internal funding opportunities support research projects, conference participation, or entrepreneurial ventures.
This curriculum blends conventional physics with quantum technology studies, equipping students with essential skills for careers in this growing sector. You'll examine current quantum applications, including internet data transmission systems and Blu-ray laser technologies. First-year students can transfer between our specialized physics programs. You may enroll in either the BSc or the accelerated MPhys degree, which leads directly to a master's qualification. MPhys students complete a dedicated research year before returning for advanced master's-level coursework.
