Our BSc and MPhys programs provide a versatile selection of modules spanning diverse subjects, encompassing both theoretical and practical physics domains. Our instruction draws upon the extensive knowledge of our distinguished faculty members. Two distinctive features of these programs include: Our recognized Professional Training opportunities: The BSc program offers optional paid Professional Training placements in industry, granting you practical experience to boost your career prospects. The MPhys includes a year-long, masters-level integrated research placement, which can be completed either within our renowned research teams or at collaborating international institutions. Our emphasis on undergraduate research and innovation: All undergraduate students can pursue paid 8-10 week summer research positions within our research groups or with our South East Physics Network partners. Additionally, we provide internal grants for research, innovation, and enterprise, enabling students to fund research projects, attend conferences, or develop business concepts.
In both the BSc and MPhys programs, you'll explore fundamental subjects like particle, nuclear, and atomic physics, alongside elective modules. During your first year, you can transfer between most of our specialized physics courses. The opportunity to undertake an integrated research year or Professional Training placement further equips you with practical experience to strengthen your career readiness. Classroom learning is supplemented by hands-on work in our state-of-the-art radiation laboratories, recently upgraded and expanded with a £2.7 million investment. As an undergraduate, you'll utilize these facilities for experiments tied to the Nuclear and Particle Physics module. You may choose to pursue either a BSc or an MPhys degree. The MPhys offers a direct path to a masters qualification, featuring an integrated research year to refine your skills in academic or industrial settings before completing your final masters-level coursework.
