Our BSc and MPhys programs provide a versatile selection of modules spanning diverse subjects, encompassing both theoretical and practical physics domains. Our instruction draws upon the extensive knowledge of our distinguished faculty members. Two distinctive features of these programs include: Our recognized Professional Training opportunities: The BSc includes an optional paid Professional Training placement in industry, offering valuable practical experience to boost your career prospects. The MPhys features a year-long, masters-level integrated research placement, which can be completed either within our renowned research teams or at one of our global partner institutions. Our emphasis on undergraduate research and innovation: All undergraduate students can apply for paid 8-10 week summer research positions in our research groups or with our South East Physics Network collaborators. We provide internal research grants and innovation funding that students can use to support research placements, conference attendance, or entrepreneurial ventures.
In both the BSc and MPhys programs, you'll explore fundamental subjects like particle, nuclear, and atomic physics, alongside elective modules. During your first year, you can transfer between most of our specialized physics courses. The integrated research year or Professional Training placement option further provides practical experience to strengthen your professional skills. Classroom instruction is supplemented with hands-on work in our state-of-the-art radiation laboratories, recently upgraded and expanded with a £2.7 million investment. As an undergraduate, you'll conduct experiments in these facilities as part of the Nuclear and Particle Physics module. You can choose to pursue either a BSc or an MPhys degree. The MPhys offers a direct path to a masters qualification, featuring an integrated research year that enables you to refine your skills in academic or industrial settings before completing your final masters-level coursework.
