You can pursue an MPhil or MRes degree in one year, or complete a PhD program spanning three years. Our postgraduate research options cover all academic groups: Applied Analysis, Continuum Mechanics & Industrial Mathematics, Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing, Population Modelling & Epidemiology, and Stochastic Analysis. The MRes program offers specialization in Mathematical Sciences. Mathematics and statistics form the foundation of all scientific and engineering fields, and we're globally recognized for applying modeling and analytical techniques to address challenges in industry, business, and society. We collaborate with academic researchers, interdisciplinary teams, and partners from industrial, commercial, and governmental sectors throughout the UK, Europe, China, and the United States.

Our Numerical Analysis team ranks among the UK's largest and most prestigious in its field. Their work centers on developing and evaluating computational approaches for algebraic and differential equations across diverse applications, enabling significant contributions to the University's key research initiatives. Current projects span Measurement Science & Enabling Technologies (involving sensor networks with NPL), Advanced Manufacturing & Materials (focusing on electric heating through AFRC partnerships), Inverse problems, sophisticated image processing and deep learning techniques, and Ocean, Air & Space studies (examining unsteady vortex-dominated flows).
