The Journalism, Media & Communication (JMC) doctoral program is offered through the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, guided by a distinguished team of global scholars. JMC PhD candidates conduct original research culminating in a thesis that expands existing literature and/or professional practice, offering novel insights to the discipline. Participants actively engage in the department's dynamic research community through seminars, MediaComm Jam events, and the Graduate School network. Strathclyde's JMC PhD program may encompass multiple research domains: applying media and communication theories to push boundaries in related fields. critically examining journalism, media industries, their operational practices and policy frameworks. investigating historical, cultural and societal inequalities as they intersect with media and communication. enhancing knowledge about media consumption patterns and their impacts on audiences, communities or industry sectors. analyzing methodological approaches across diverse academic traditions.Our institution provides specialized supervision across JMC specializations including:journalism studies and professional practicessocial media researchpolitical communication studieshealth and science communicationgender studies in media
For PhD, normally, a first-class or upper second-class Honours degree, or overseas equivalent, plus a Masters degree in a relevant area. 
If you're an international applicant and don’t have a degree from a UK University (or a University where the primary medium of instruction is English), you'll also be required to provide an IELTS certificate (overall minimum band score of 7 with no individual test score below 6.5, the test must be taken within two years of the programme start date).
