We provide dedicated PhD supervision for research examining current challenges in Journalism and news media.
Our collaborations with the School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research, Kent Law School, and the University's Institute for Cultural and Creative Industries enable interdisciplinary doctoral research. We encourage PhD proposals addressing areas including political communications, travel journalism, war reporting, media ethics, legal frameworks, lifestyle media, electoral journalism, credibility in digital platforms, though this list isn't exhaustive.

Two research pathways are available. The MA by Research requires a 40,000-word dissertation completed over one year full-time or two years part-time. Our PhD programs involve rigorous investigation culminating in 75,000-word theses, with durations of three years full-time or five years part-time.
