Why choose this course? Teaching stands as one of the most fulfilling professions you can enter – you'll have the opportunity to influence future generations. This program offers both the foundational knowledge and hands-on experience to launch your teaching journey. You'll develop essential classroom skills, mindsets, and abilities to effectively engage with students. Globally recognized certification This professional training program certifies you to teach at the primary level. The qualification holds international recognition and is accredited by: • The General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) • The Scottish Government Program overview The Professional Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) serves as the graduate pathway for aspiring primary (or secondary) teachers in Scotland. This internationally acknowledged qualification enables new educators to pursue qualified teacher status (QTS) or equivalent certification in their home countries. Practical experience The course includes 18 weeks of school placement within Scotland, where you'll demonstrate your ability to meet the Standards for Provisional Registration through ongoing assessment. Full participation is required, including regular school hours and staff development days unless otherwise instructed by your placement school. This hands-on experience allows you to apply your learning, refine your teaching approach, acquire new methods, and build meaningful connections with students. Career prospects The PGDE is essential for primary teaching positions worldwide. After completing the probationary period, it opens doors to structured career advancement in primary education, including roles such as Principal Teacher, Deputy Head Teacher, and Head Teacher. Experienced educators in Scotland may progress to leadership positions, become teacher training lecturers, HM Inspectors, or take on developmental roles at Education Scotland or the GTCS. While focused on Scotland's education system, the qualification is valued across the UK, Ireland, and international schools. Scottish, UK, and Irish students at Scottish universities can access the Teacher Induction Scheme (TIS), guaranteeing a one-year training position with a local authority after graduation.
