The Journalism, Media & Communication (JMC) program is offered under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, guided by a distinguished team of globally recognized scholars. Doctoral candidates in JMC are required to conduct research culminating in a thesis that advances existing literature and/or professional practice, offering novel insights to the discipline. Participants will actively engage with the dynamic research community through seminars, MediaComm Jam events, and the Graduate School network. A Strathclyde JMC PhD may focus on one or more of these domains: applying media and communication theories to expand knowledge in related fields. critically examining media, journalism, or communication sectors, including their operational methods and regulatory frameworks. investigating historical, cultural, and societal inequalities as they intersect with journalism and media. enhancing comprehension of media consumption patterns and their impacts on audiences, communities, or industries. analyzing methodologies from diverse academic disciplines.Strathclyde provides specialized supervision across multiple JMC specializations, such as:journalism studies and professional practicessocial media analysispolitical communication strategieshealth and science communicationgender studies in media contexts
For PhD, normally, a first-class or upper second-class Honours degree, or overseas equivalent, plus a Masters degree in a relevant area. 
IELTS (Academic): 6.5 overall (no individual band less than 5.5)
TOEFL (ibt): 80 overall, with the following minimum scores in each component: Listening: 17 Reading: 18 Speaking: 20 Writing: 18.
