The Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy enhances your theoretical understanding, reflective capacity, and clinical competencies to prepare you as a proficient practitioner working with adults experiencing common mental health challenges like anxiety and depression. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a psychotherapeutic approach grounded in the concept that psychological symptoms arise and persist through the interplay of an individual's thoughts, emotions, and behavioral patterns.
CBT represents an evidence-backed psychological treatment endorsed by NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) as a primary therapeutic approach for numerous mental health conditions. During CBT sessions, therapists and clients work together to recognize and modify thought processes and behaviors that may perpetuate symptoms. This program aligns with the national Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) program, designed to expand the pool of qualified high-intensity CBT practitioners.
Upon graduation, you'll be qualified to practice as a high-intensity cognitive behavioural therapist and may pursue provisional accreditation with the BABCP as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist.
After successfully completing the PgDip, you will have the ability to:
Exhibit comprehensive knowledge of core CBT principles for treating depression and anxiety disorders, along with supporting clinical evidence
Develop joint CBT formulations with clients, addressing both symptom maintenance and personal growth aspects
Design personalized CBT treatment strategies
Deliver systematic CBT interventions for clients with depression and/or anxiety disorders, employing innovative methods to achieve optimal clinical results
