This Master's program offers a comprehensive theoretical and practical introduction to contemporary animal behavior studies, delivered by leading experts. It equips students with the skills needed for behavioral research, addressing essential areas like cognition, behavioral ecology, and movement ecology, alongside cutting-edge methodologies. The one-year Animal Behavior MSc, administered by the School of Biology, emphasizes theoretical foundations, experimental design, analytical methods, and technical approaches in modern behavioral research. Based in the School's Centre for Biological Diversity—a globally recognized hub for animal behavior studies—the program features instruction from distinguished researchers specializing in animal cognition, cultural evolution, biologging, and complex behavioral systems. Alongside core training in transferable skills, students can select from specialized advanced modules. Fieldwork opportunities include local studies within core modules and optional international courses (additional fees apply) in Antarctica (polar ecology) or Indonesia (scientific diving). Participants will complete an independent research project with a School of Biology research group, often with laboratory choice. Interactive seminars and workshops foster learning, build confidence, and improve career prospects.
