Grasping foreign languages and cultures should be a cornerstone of our interconnected world. University-level language studies enable students to comprehend people, traditions, and historical narratives through their native tongues. This academic pursuit also allows for a wider perspective on one's own linguistic and cultural background.Within the School of Modern Languages, students learn from specialists in seven language disciplines plus Comparative Literature, with research spanning medieval times to contemporary issues across diverse subjects.
The MPhil program blends coursework with research. Students complete two semesters of full-time instruction (or equivalent part-time) with evaluations, followed by a maximum 40,000-word thesis. This research project is developed during summer and the subsequent year, with submission due by the second academic year's conclusion.
