The MPhil program typically spans two years for full-time students, with a part-time option extending up to four years. During the initial nine months, students complete the coursework components equivalent to an MLitt degree. This includes a dedicated research methods module designed to enhance academic investigation skills. By the conclusion of the second year, candidates must submit a thesis (maximum 40,000 words) and undergo an oral defense (viva voce). Successful completion of the first year is mandatory to advance to the second year of study.

Qualification Requirements

Admission to research study within the Faculties of Arts and Divinity is normally on the basis of a good Master's degree which must be related to your area of research.

All applications must include the required supplementary documentation before a decision can be made. This varies by programme but includes:
CV or r'sum. This should include your personal details with a history of your education and employment to date.
A research proposal.
A sample of academic written work in English.
Two original signed academic references.
Academic transcripts and degree certificates. Please only send certified copies with official English translations if applicable. Do not send original documents as they cannot be returned.
English language requirements certificate.
