The MPhil is a two-year program tailored for students and professionals holding a degree in Chemistry or a related field. The first year consists of structured coursework, followed by a dedicated research phase in Year 2. Over these two years, participants receive comprehensive theoretical training in Chemistry while honing advanced research capabilities through two key projects:
a summer research initiative in Year 1 concluding with a 15,000-word thesis, and an extended research endeavor in Year 2 yielding a dissertation of up to 60,000 words. This program is ideal for those seeking to deepen their chemical knowledge and research proficiency, often serving as preparation for subsequent PhD studies.
MPhil duration: typically two years. Year 1 combines academic instruction with a research component, while Year 2 emphasizes full-time research culminating in a maximum 60,000-word dissertation.
This research theme centers on life's chemical foundations and biological processes, crucial for pharmaceutical innovation and sustainable catalysis. Investigations encompass bioinformatics, enzyme biophysics, molecular tool development for pathway analysis, metabolic engineering, and synthetic biology. EaStCHEM's interdisciplinary approach in this domain significantly influences medical science, pharmaceuticals, and agrochemical sectors. The research explores multiple dimensions, particularly focusing on disease chemistry (microbial, parasitic, neurological, and genetic) and creating biochemical tools to study and combat illnesses, including neglected tropical diseases that disproportionately affect disadvantaged populations globally.
