The MLitt in Playwriting and Screenwriting is a one-year postgraduate program offered by the School of English. This intensive course helps you refine your craft in writing for stage, radio, and film while cultivating your unique artistic voice. You'll complete the program with a diverse writing portfolio and professional knowledge about approaching theaters, obtaining commissions, and building a career as a playwright. The program combines practical instruction from renowned contemporary playwrights with academic excellence, focusing on modern writing techniques and industry standards. Each student receives personalized guidance from dedicated mentors to sharpen their creative skills and distinctive style. With class sizes capped at ten students, the program ensures exceptional individual support. Instruction takes place in the Byre Theatre Studio, utilizing professional theater facilities. Throughout your studies in St Andrews, you'll collaborate with and learn from working theater professionals including directors, actors, and established writers.

Qualification Requirements

A 2.1 Honours undergraduate degree. However a candidate who demonstrates outstanding writing abilities may be accepted on the basis of an equivalent qualification (e.g. a body of published work or a relevant professional qualification), but such cases are entirely at the discretion of staff and require decanal approval.
