Our MA Playwriting program offers a rigorous one-year curriculum that serves as a direct pathway to professional writing opportunities in theater and performance. Similar to our acclaimed MA Screenwriting course, this playwriting program is led by working professionals with a strong vocational and industry focus. Throughout the year, you'll collaborate with top theater practitioners to hone your skills in playwriting, pitching, and dramaturgy. The curriculum covers writing for performance across various styles, formats, and thematic approaches. Upon completion, you'll have produced several substantial works including a full-length stage play, multiple one-act plays, a festival-length production piece, and at least one contemporary adaptation of a classic text. The program provides personalized career coaching and practical training for breaking into theater writing professions. You'll benefit from frequent industry guest speakers, including successful alumni working as playwrights, dramaturgs, and production professionals.
