The MLitt in German Studies provides students with a platform to explore academic pursuits in the societies, cultures, literatures, and films of German-speaking regions from medieval times to today. This one-year taught program, offered by the Department of German within the School of Modern Languages, caters to those seeking deeper insights into German literature, culture, and history or preparing for PhD studies. Participants benefit from a well-rounded curriculum featuring advanced research methods, current trends in German studies, and specialized focus areas. Students enjoy direct engagement with faculty experts spanning diverse fields such as medieval literature, 19th-century studies, realism, historiography, cultural memory, and film. The program emphasizes fostering independent research skills while integrating students into our welcoming department and vibrant postgraduate network, which includes many peers from our partner university in Bonn. Instruction is delivered by specialists covering broad aspects of German Studies, from medieval texts to contemporary cinema.
