This program offers an in-depth exploration of Modern Languages (Italian and Russian) alongside Latin, delivered at an advanced, research-focused level where students will learn how knowledge is developed, expanded, and refreshed. It fosters independent learning among all participants, promoting curiosity, precision, academic integrity, and rigorous scholarship. Spanning 60 months, the course culminates in a Master of Arts (Honours) degree. Like all St Andrews programs, it consists of credit-based modules. Students must complete 540 credits throughout the program, typically earning 120 credits per academic year. The initial two years combine mandatory program-specific modules with elective options (sometimes including interdisciplinary Faculty selections). Subsequent years focus on specialized, research-driven coursework tailored to the program. The first two years blend core program modules with diverse electives (potentially from other Faculties), while later years emphasize advanced, program-specific research-based learning.
