This program offers an in-depth exploration of Modern Languages (Arabic and Persian) combined with Middle East Studies at a research-intensive level, where students learn how knowledge is developed, expanded, and revitalized. It fosters independent learning among all participants, emphasizing curiosity, precision, academic integrity, and rigorous scholarship. Spanning 48 months, the course culminates in a Master of Arts (Honours) degree. Like all St Andrews programs, it consists of credit-based modules, requiring students to complete 480 credits—typically 120 per academic year. The initial two years focus on mandatory program-specific modules alongside elective options (sometimes including interdisciplinary courses). The final years deliver specialized, research-driven education through tailored modules. The first two years blend core subjects with a selection of optional modules (potentially from other faculties), while the later stages concentrate on advanced, discipline-focused studies.
