As an MA (Hons) Italian student, you'll achieve advanced language proficiency while exploring diverse aspects of Italian culture, including literature, history, politics, and cinema. The program welcomes both beginners and those with prior experience, exposing all students to a rich variety of cultural works spanning from medieval poetry to contemporary Italian films and novels. This research-intensive course combines Italian studies with Medieval History, fostering independent learning through rigorous academic inquiry. The four-year program awards a Master of Arts (Honours) degree upon completion of 480 credits (typically 120 credits annually). The initial years combine core Italian modules with optional courses, while later years focus on specialized, research-driven study. Like all St Andrews degrees, the curriculum allows for interdisciplinary exploration, with opportunities to take modules from other faculties during the early stages of study.
