You'll become part of two expansive departments featuring scholars across numerous specialties, with opportunities to cultivate expertise and research methodologies in both fields while examining their connections. You'll undertake a systematic French language program while discovering the richness of French and francophone heritage through various modules covering literature, cinema, history, philosophy, politics, linguistics, and visual arts. Your third year abroad lets you examine historical themes within the unique cultural setting of a French-speaking nation, either through academic study or professional placements. University study options will emphasize historical subjects, while work placements will focus on heritage-related positions.
In your final year, you'll independently investigate the connections between history and French through a research dissertation requiring analysis of French-language sources. This dual expertise in history, language, and culture will position you perfectly to bridge intercultural communication across borders.
Instruction occurs through various formats including lectures, tutorials, seminars, workshops, and individual supervision. Evaluation methods encompass presentations, essays, analyses, examinations, group projects, debates, podcasts, video essays, and research papers.

French studies are available for both beginners and advanced students (A-level equivalent or higher).
