The MA (Hons) in French is a four or five-year program offered by the School of Modern Languages. During the initial two years, students will enhance their French language abilities while exploring diverse aspects of French literature, culture, and civilization. This curriculum combines advanced study of French, Italian, and Russian with research-focused learning, helping students grasp how knowledge evolves and progresses. The program fosters independent study with an emphasis on curiosity, precision, and academic excellence. Spanning 48 months, it culminates in a Master of Arts (Honours) degree. Like all St Andrews programs, it consists of credit-based courses, requiring 480 credits total (typically 120 per year). The first two years feature mandatory program-specific courses alongside elective options (sometimes from other faculties). Later years focus on specialized, research-driven modules tailored to the program.
