The MA (Hons) in Mediaeval History is a four-year program offered by the School of History. During the initial two years, students explore the medieval era by examining the political and social structures of Britain, Europe, and the Middle East from approximately 500 to 1500 AD. This foundation provides comprehensive insight into key historical themes and scholarly approaches, while developing skills in analyzing primary sources. The curriculum delivers advanced, research-focused study of French and Medieval History, teaching students how knowledge evolves through academic inquiry. The program fosters independent learning characterized by curiosity, precision, and academic rigor. Spanning 48 months, it culminates in a Master of Arts (Honours) degree. Like all St Andrews programs, it comprises credit-based modules requiring 480 credits total (typically 120 credits annually). The first two years combine mandatory program-specific courses with elective options (sometimes including cross-faculty modules), while later years focus on specialized, research-driven coursework tailored to the discipline.
