This program offers advanced, research-focused study in English and Philosophy, enabling students to explore how knowledge is developed, expanded, and revitalized. It fosters independent learning among all participants, emphasizing curiosity, integrity, precision, and academic rigor. Spanning 48 months, the course leads to a Master of Arts (Honours) degree. Like all St Andrews programs, it consists of credit-based modules, requiring students to complete 480 credits over the duration—typically 120 credits per academic year. The initial two years feature core program-specific modules alongside elective options (sometimes including interdisciplinary Faculty choices). The final years provide specialized, research-driven education through tailored modules. The first two years combine mandatory program courses with selected electives (potentially from other Faculties), while subsequent years focus on advanced, discipline-specific research learning.
