Our Welsh and Philosophy (BA) degree offers comprehensive training in the Welsh language, its literary heritage, and cultural context, while exploring fundamental philosophical inquiries across diverse subjects and schools of thought. You'll attain advanced proficiency in both written and spoken Welsh, hone collaborative and analytical abilities, and cultivate valuable career-ready and creative competencies tailored to contemporary Welsh society. We encourage thoughtful, open-minded engagement with complex issues, including delicate and contentious matters, through both critical analysis and creative approaches. The program accommodates students with Welsh as either their primary or secondary language. Second-language learners receive dedicated first and second-year modules to strengthen linguistic proficiency before joining first-language students for most second-year and all final-year coursework. Elective modules cover diverse subjects including Welsh literature across eras, language planning, and professional translation services. The philosophy curriculum establishes foundations in ethics while encompassing theory of knowledge, philosophy of consciousness, and political philosophy, with options to study aesthetics, gender philosophy, and phenomenological studies. Final-year students can concentrate on their chosen specializations. Numerous modules investigate language applications, fostering deeper understanding of philosophical concepts' practical consequences and creating tangible connections between theory and implementation. This culminates in a capstone project where students employ philosophical methodologies to devise solutions for genuine ethical or societal challenges.
