The MA (Hons) in Classical Studies offers an exceptionally broad and profound academic experience. This program encompasses not just Greek and Roman literature but also explores the social, cultural, philosophical, religious, and artistic aspects of antiquity, along with how classical traditions influence contemporary society. At St Andrews, you'll engage with diverse topics - from the emotional force of Greek drama to the aesthetic grandeur of Roman art and the intellectual challenges of Platonic discourse. The curriculum fosters fresh perspectives on both ancient civilizations and modern contexts. All classical texts are taught using English translations, with no prior language skills needed. Students can optionally study Latin and Greek at various proficiency levels and may combine classical studies with related disciplines like ancient history, archaeology, and classical philosophy.
