The MA (Hons) in Classical Studies offers an exceptionally broad and profound academic experience. This program explores not just Greek and Roman literature but also delves into the classical world's social and cultural history, philosophy, religious practices, artistic achievements, and its influence on contemporary society. At St Andrews, you'll engage with diverse topics including the emotional impact of Greek drama, the majestic artistry of Roman statuary, and the intricate reasoning of Platonic discourse. This curriculum fosters fresh perspectives on both ancient civilizations and modern society. All classical texts are taught using English translations, with no prior knowledge of ancient languages required. Students can optionally study Latin and Greek at introductory or advanced levels, with opportunities for further specialization. The program also allows for interdisciplinary studies through complementary courses in ancient history, archaeology, and classical philosophy.
