The Comparative Literature component of this four-year joint Honours program is administered by the School of Modern Languages. During the initial two years, students explore diverse literary genres and themes across various traditions (comm encompassing Arabic, French, German, Italian, Persian, Russian, Spanish, Latin American, British, and North American works) while examining the challenges of comparative literary analysis, particularly when dealing with translated texts. This foundation provides the broad literary exposure and analytical tools required for specialized study at the Honours level. The curriculum involves advanced, research-focused examination of Biblical Studies and Comparative Literature, fostering an appreciation for how academic knowledge evolves. Students develop skills in autonomous learning characterized by intellectual curiosity, precision, and scholarly rigor. This 48-month Master of Arts (Honours) degree follows St Andrews' credit-based structure, requiring 480 credits total (typically 120 per year). Early years combine mandatory program-specific courses with elective options (sometimes including cross-faculty modules), while later years emphasize specialized, research-driven study tailored to the discipline.
