The MA (Hons) in Art History equips students with the skills to critically evaluate diverse artworks while developing strong visual and verbal communication abilities. This program primarily examines painting, sculpture, and architecture while also incorporating applied arts, graphic design, performance art, and photography. Throughout the degree, students learn to examine artistic works through multiple lenses - analyzing stylistic elements, thematic content, symbolic meanings, theoretical foundations, and aesthetic qualities. The curriculum introduces various analytical frameworks to uncover both overt and subtle concepts within artistic creations. This four-year program, offered by the School of Art History, integrates perspectives from economics, social studies, political science, literature, philosophy, and psychology to provide comprehensive contexts for understanding art. The first year curriculum focuses on two key areas: European and global medieval/Renaissance art, emphasizing the socio-political and religious contexts of artistic production, and 17th-18th century European art and architecture, exploring technological innovations, expanding viewership, and colonial influences.
