The four-year joint Honours program's Arabic component is managed by the Department of Arabic and Persian in the School of Modern Languages. The curriculum covers diverse topics ranging from Islamic history to media Arabic, and from classical medieval literature to modern and contemporary works.
This advanced program combines Arabic and Classics studies at a research-intensive level, enabling students to comprehend how knowledge evolves, progresses, and transforms. It fosters independent learning among all participants, emphasizing curiosity, precision, academic integrity, and rigorous scholarship. Spanning 48 months, the course culminates in a Master of Arts (Honours) degree. Like all St Andrews programs, it consists of credit-based modules requiring 480 credits total, typically 120 per academic year. The initial two years focus on core program modules alongside elective options (sometimes including cross-faculty courses), while subsequent years deliver specialized, research-driven advanced studies.
